Artisphere is a 62,000 square foot cultural complex combining the former Newseum space with the Spectrum Theatre next door. It opened this October. I'm considering going to see Dar Williams there. Has anyone checked it out yet, and if so what did you think?

Also, did you try the cafe and is it worth eating there? (Or should we find a place down the street?)

I haven't been there yet but I'd imagine it's pretty cool if it uses the old Newseum space.

Just as a follow up, I went to the concert. I was surprised at how many other things were going on there, in addition to my concert. The joint was hopping! There was some sort of Film Festival was happening in another room. There was a little arts and crafts gallery downstairs. In the lobby, a giant silent art video was running (this is my favorite feature. It's mesmerizing.) There were plenty of comfy couches, tables, and chairs to take it all in. My only complaint is that it's a little too light and bright for my tastes. I prefer more ambience.

Another thing I like is that Metro is right there, so it's the most convenient theatre in the area. They also validate parking. (But why would you need it? Take the Metro!)

I went to the Artisphere today. There were no performances or other special events going on, so it was quiet. The art exhibits were very interesting - dare I say "cool"? I also liked the space overall.

There was also a kids' area, as well as some parents showing their kids some of the art. Seemed like a good idea for a rainy day.
