My job has been moved to Quantico and I have already sold my home in Alexandria VA to buy a SFH in Stafford. Wife and I see this as an opportunity for her to stay home and raise the kids where as if we bought a new place in Fairfax County she would have to continue to work. Our current home was too small anyway and we were going to move regardless.
We have narrowed our search down to three neighborhoods in Stafford based on their amenities and location.
Austin Ridge
Hampton Oaks

Leeland Station

Our favorite is Austin Ridge but we also like the other neighborhoods as well.

Of those 3 neighborhoods which one would be best for raising a family? Schools? Activities for the kids?

We are really looking for a nice community with lots of other kids and things to do as close as possible to shopping/dining.

I read that you can walk from Leeland Station to their neighborhood shopping center. Is that true? Is it a nice shopping center?
Sorry for all the questions, just looking for any and all info regarding Stafford county and those neighborhoods.
Thank you!

If they're talking about the tiny old strip mall on the corner of Leeland and Deacon, then it is nothing to sneeze about. I can't think of what else they would be referring to. A little further on Deacon is Bloom grocery store, which is not a favorite of ours. Leeland's big advantage is being close to the VRE and not far from downtown Fredericksburg and the Central Park Shopping. We've done our trick or treating there the last two years and it looks very nice. There is a very new elementary school right behind the subdivision. I do not know what middle school and high school that area is zoned for. We live in the Brooke Point High School zone and people speak highly of BP. Leeland Station is also very close to a YMCA that I've heard great things about.

Austin Ridge and Hampton Oaks are both close to a county pool (Woodland) which is in use year round and the Porter Library Branch. They are also very nice neighborhoods, but I don't have a lot of firsthand knowledge about them.

Come down and drive around. That is your best way to get a feel for the areas.
