I will be moving to the area in a couple of weeks and I am sure I will need to start mowing the grass right away.

I have been looking at online sites, but would like to see the machine and perhaps have the store stand behind what it sells.

Can anybody recommend dealerships or stores that have used lawnmowers available for sale?

Thanks

I bought one on CL and tested it out before I brought it home.

What kind of mower are you thinking about? How big is your lawn?

In Stafford Co. there is a mechanic that is located right across from the county dump on Eskimo Hill rd. He works on cars, but another man (that I'm guessing is his son) works on, buys, and sells used lawnmowers. Other than that I'd look at craig's list.

Sears sells used mowers that folks have brought in for warranty work and never picked up again, floor models, refurbs, etc.. Call the store first to see if they have any inventory on hand. Also call lawn mower repair shops; they often have used mowers for sale.

I will have about a half acre to mow, and was planning to get a used push or walk behind mower to start out. I might move up to a bigger machine later one, but would still need the smaller mower for trimming.

Ah, about the same size lawn as mine then. I sort of did the same thing when I bought my house a couple years ago, except that the lawnmower I got from my dad. (Old enough that it says "HECHINGER" across the front! ) Had the mower serviced at this place Alpha Lawn & Garden Equipment Inc - Falls Church, VA- (Alpha Lawn & Garden Equipment - ) Alpha Lawn and Garden Equipment - Fairfax, Virginia Don't know whether they sell mowers but they might. They did a fine job tuning up my mower at least.

I wish I had a riding mower but didn't have anywhere to keep it nor any money for one when I bought the house. I figured I'd get one when I got a shed, which I still haven't done. If you can get a bigger one, I'd recommend it, it sucks doing that much area with just a push mower.

Why not hire a lawn service to cut your grass until you can do some research and find a good deal. An impulse buy right now may cost you more later.

That could be a possibility. What is the going rate/month for a service to mow a 1/2 acre yard?
