Where is this "end of yellow line" in reference to The Hutington Gateway Apts? We are searching on line for our post graduate son, who will be working in DC for a year, has a car, but we are looking for safety upmost but not a boring area for a young man.

About a 15 minute walk. There's also a shuttle from Huntington Gateway to the station during peak hours, and a county bus in non-peak hours.

Huntington Gateway is probably the nicest of the high-rise apartment complexes near both the Huntington Metro Station and I-95/I-495. It is convenience to each of those transit options that helps to makes that area popular with professionals. However, Huntington is not known at all for any social scene. The Old Town section of Alexandria is a short drive/bike ride away and will provide some nice diversions. Your son may find himself spending a lot of time in Arlington as it contains the epicenter of the younger professional social scene (namely the Clarendon and Ballston neighborhoods) in Northern Virginia.

He'll probably find it pretty boring there. Why not have him live right in DC? Unless he's a drug dealer or crack addict he'll be safe enough. Driving around NoVA is actually more of a danger. He'll be a lot less bored there than he will here. If I were a single renter, I'd live in the city.
