for 450-500k you can get a nice 3-4 bedroom sfh in either ashburn or Leesburg.

Both towns have direct acess to 267. now these are futher out than you were first looking but if you can pick where to work.... I am sure Loudoun county has lots of account jobs. The Dullas area has a big job market and well as working in Reston or Herndon.

Tysons isn't that bad of a commute from Ashburn and taking the toll road is very easy.

Agreed to all. Traffic can also be as bad as nova in MD- as a matter of fact, i think cnn money or something put the I-270/495 interchange as one of the longest delayed in the country, while none in VA showed up. However, nova still has alot.

I work in DC and I am planning to buy a townhouse in VA or MD. Now I am stuck with two good choices , one in Gaithersburg MD and other one in Springfield , VA 22150.

I will be taking the metro so commuting is not a problem for me , I am not sure which townhouse I should pick , please provide your suggestion.

Both of these townhouses are in similar pattern.

Both are good areas. I love Nova but think I would do Gatihersburg over Springfield. Do you have kids?

Which part of Gaithersburg? As with Springfield, there are places to avoid. I live in Gaithersburg and I like it alot. Springfield is okay (West Springfield would be better).

Since you will ride the Metro, it doesn't really matter which one you choose. If you were driving then I would reccomend Springfield because it will be a shorter, quicker drive.

Yes, Silver Spring is nice and more affordable without being far away, and the commute from McLean to the near-in parts of Montgomery County will likely be much nicer (though still jam-packed with traffic) than a commute to some of the further reaches of Louden County. The main reason I would hesitate to move to Silver Spring myself is that there are better schools in other areas, but it sounds like your kids are grown, so I'm guessing you don't care about that too much. Silver Spring has some nice, dense, urban areas, if you like that. Nice and walkable. Do you prefer an urban or suburban environment?
