I currently live in Leesburg and have a very lucky 5 minute commute to Lansdowne. In a week or so, however, I am relocating to the Fair Lakes area to be closer to my family. What is the best way to make the commute from Lansdowne to Fair Lakes and vice-versa? I did an evening test run today, leaving Lansdowne at 5 PM sharp. I took 28/267/FFX County Parkway/Monument. It was smooth sailing until FFX Parkway, which was pretty congested, especially at the W. Ox intersection as well as the Fair Lakes Parkway detour mess. I hit Fairfax Corner around 5:45 PM. Is this the best I'm going to get? Any other routes you suggest? And should I expect similar results for the morning commute to Lansdowne? Thanks a lot!

I just put this in one of the map websites, and it came back with 28S all the way to 50. It says 20 miles, 28 minutes...but 44 minutes in current traffic conditions.

Route 7 to Fairfax County Parkway would be another alternate route. That shows 20.9 miles, 31 minutes, 39 minutes in current traffic conditions.

Both of these would avoid the toll as well. I don't travel this route, though, so I can't speak from first hand experience about the time during rush hour.

Edited to add: obviously, I don't know the exact locations within the Landsdowne and Fair Lakes area, so the timing is not precise, but just intended to present options.

I avoided 28 (south of the Toll Road) because I assumed traffic would be 2 times worse than the Parkway. I may be wrong, though; I'm not really sure which way traffic filters on 28 since it's a north/south route.

It's against traffic at least most of the way, though 28 and 7100 can be kind of ambivalent on the matter of which way traffic is heavier. It still should be a fairly easy trip each way. Another alternative coming from Lansdowne would be to take 7 all the way to Reston Parkway (602). That runs right into West Ox Road (608) which you can take all the way to Monument, then left to Fairfax Corner. There are lights and potential bottlenecks there too, but might be worth a try for comparisons sake. I'd guess it would be closer to 30 minutes than to 45 no matter which way you went.
