I find the information here to be extremely valuable. When you are new to the area and don't know where to start, and a bit overwhelmed at that, it was wonderful to get the advice from those on this board. There is really a great group of people on this board and I wish more people asking questions would take the time to say Thanks!

First and foremost, IMO this forum is a fantastic source of information for new residents. Everything from "Where is the fastest DMV line" to "What store has the best birthday cakes".

Because we have so many people moving here, the posters on this forum tend to be transitional. People show up for a short time, get the information they need, and then become too busy exploring their new town to spend time on a forum. So we don't end up having as many current events discussions as some of the other forums. OTOH, when we do have those discussion I feel the Nova forum tends to have more posters who have some expertise in an area and actually know what they're talking about (rather than a bunch of posters just spouting off).

I really enjoy the regulars on this forum because they tend to be very smart, and they work in a variety of fields and have a variety of interests. They can be quite insightful--and some of the regulars here are pretty funny, too.

I frequently learn about things here before hearing them on the news. In fact, sometimes I think the local media use city-data as a source of news.

I don't think this forum is big on giving/getting reputation points. If you're looking for rep points, hit the General Topics forums.

I would say the lively conversations. The Louisville and Kentucky subforums aren't very active or exciting. At least in the NoVA forum it never gets boring.

Jeez, what an understatement. There have been times when we get downright dirty, mean, and ugly with each other.

Evenso, there are plenty of apologies as well. So I agree: " . . . it never gets boring."

Well it helps restore my faith that some people in NOVA are neighborly. And I enjoy writing about that crazy, costco loving, life in the republic of NOVA-stan.

And I am glad that trolls are dispatched quickly and turned into the equivalent of soylent green bytes. Justice is served quickly!

And 90% of the time I get an answer here! This is the first place I check when I'm looking for something in the area.

Due to these forums is why we ended up moving to Round Hill, if I hadn't found the photo thread and discussion of the area, we may have ended up elsewhere.

It's been a great benefit since moving here!
