We're going to a place called Thai Basil in Chantilly. Apparently it's well known for being on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Has anyone eaten there, and if so what do you recommend?

Yup I've been there many times with people from work for lunch (it's about a 3-minute drive from our office), I always get either the chicken pad thai or pad see ew, both are great. Their spring roll and "golden cup" appetizers aren't bad either.

Those places offer much better deals for Lunch--Pad Thai Gai (Chicken) runs 75 cents all over Thailand--pronounced "GUY". Pad Thai Moo (Pork) same, and Pad Thai Kung (Shrimp) pronounced Goong, is a Dollar---

The extras come in a basket on the side, so there is no reason to worry about spiciness--it is one of there more mild dishes, and very consistent (you will only see the hog-jaws in Thailand).

I've eaten at Thai Basil many times; my old office was located right across Rte 50. All of the dishes I've ever tried were good, but beware the heat. They offer a choice from "0 chilies" to "5 chilies". Now, I like my dishes with a fair amount of heat, but 2 chilies was plenty. I once tasted a co-workers "5 chile" dish, and to me it was nothing but blinding, searing heat!

We ended up getting a bunch of different dishes and sharing them around the table. We go the coconut soup (loved it), drunken noodles (LOVED these, my favorite of all the dishes), the Bobby Flay pad thai (I was kind of meh about this), the panang curry (very delicious, but very hot and may be the reason I had some digestion problems later in the day), crying tiger (doesn't taste like a Thai dish--it's just cut up pieces of flank steak. I'd avoid.), and sticky rice with mango (a dessert that was yummy. I want to learn how to make this.)

I highly recommend this place, but go early because once it got crowded service seemed to slow down horribly. We saw people waiting and waiting to get a table.
