I love Pat Collins!!

I think the kid should be punished but not expelled. I think that is too harsh of a punishment. Save the banana boy!!
Hilarious!

I'm not normally a fan of Pat Collins, but this interview was great! Good answers by the kid, BTW--a lot of 14 year olds would not be as mature as he was.

I agree that suspension is enough no need to expel the kid there's a lot worse crap going on in the schools these days!

Actually, one is in Fairfax. Steve Stuban is running for member at large. It was his son Nick who committed suicide last year during a disciplinary procedures that pushed to the fore front the issues of how the school board handled disciplinary hearings.

although it's not worth the cost of a lawyer, I think if the kid really wanted to fight it, he could get out of the suspension. The school has nothing on him and their default reaction to anything like this is "long suspension, maybe expulsion." It's a scare tactic to prevent similar incidents.

Even if it didn't happen during school hours the school can find some obscure clause about "disrupting the learning environment" to justify their pointless suspension.

I'd say there's no chance the school gives him any longer than the 10 day suspension he received, and even that is 10 days too long.

I just repped you while trying to reply, so don't think you're now top bana...oh never mind.

Several of the Fairfax School Board candidates are focusing on reform of the disciplinary process. I think the local group is called "Zero Tolerance Reform" or something like that. Maybe they can send a delegation to Stafford to come to Banana Man's aid.

I saw on the news last night he's been readmitted to school and I think that's a good idea as the suspension was inappropriate BUT his mother was interviewed and immediately chimed in with "But he's autistic and you just have to understand...". That's a poor excuse...

I'd excuse him for being 14, autism has nothing to do with it!

I totally agree. My reaction all along has been the mother is making way too big of a deal about the autism. I'll bet that's one of the reasons that poor kid did the banana run in the first place. Now he's known for something cool, instead of being "the kid with autism". I know his mother means well but I'll bet she embarrasses the hell out of that poor kid by talking about his autism so much.
