I had started another thread back in the summer before my move. Well, I have finally settled in Manassas and have visited several churches and I have NOT FOUND ONE that fits my criteria. I must say that the Churches around here are very much different from the Texas Bible belt that I am used to. Not to slam them, but what I have seen so far is watered down praise and worship, weak teachings (More worried about hurting someones feelings versus preaching the truth), and or preaching to the new chirstians (Which is needed, but not me), fast food type services, and what I mean by that is a new service every hour. I can see having services like every 2 hours, but every hour or hour and 15 minutes, whats the rush!! Allow the Holy spirit to lead your church and quit worrying about how many servics can I squeeze in today!! Churches are so rushed that only one individual has taken time to even ask my family if we were new to the area, and even then after service was done we were left to fend for ourselves. We were told during annoucements that all visitors should go to the library. Uhm ok, where the heck is the library? Once in the library no one took time to guide us to the right area. We finally found where we were to be, filled out a card and ask for someone to call us as we had questions. Its been 2 weeks and no call. TWO WORDS- First impression!

To be fair to the churches that I have visited I will not name them on here. I will continue to pray and believe that the Lord will guide me to the right church. Here is the link to my church back home, which will allow you to see what I am seeking. I recommend that you watch or podcast a service and I promise you that you will see a difference.

try his church international Christian center. We are located in springfield. Right now we are meeting at Washington irvine middle for a few weeks (our new facility is being renovated). Our church meets all of the criteria you have mentioned. I also will say that our pastor is one of the 'realest' preacher I've ever heard. Don't take my word for it, go check it out for yourself. We have service on Sunday at 10:30 and Wednesday bible study at 7:30. Our website is hcicc.org.

Yeah. You're not slamming them. Just because they are not like your church in Texas certainly doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. Evidently it works for them. Just post your still looking for a certain type of church and leave the less than helpful critiques out of it.

I go to Manassas Nazarene, a really great church with an awesome pastor and people. It is considered medium sized, probably 100+ people there. They have a 2pm Hispanic service, also. Good luck finding the church that would suit you!

Try the Life Church on Balls Ford Rd.

VERY charismatic, heavy, worshipping, loud praise band. We tried it because our friends go, but after the service, we agreed it just wasn't for us.

We liked Manassas Baptist better.

Hmm I can understand why some may be offended but I think what the OP is saying has a lot of truth to it. There are a lot of churches all over the world, not just in this area, that have made it a point to make church a profitable business. And that means, don't preach about certain things like homosexuality, adultery, having an honest heart, bearing good fruit, etc. Because the thinking is that such preaching will scare off people. And that means less people which equals less money. When money is your motivation for ministry often the true message of the gospel is being compromised. So yes as a Christian you should be upset if churches are doing that.

To me an analogy of what's going on in the churches is what is going on in the NFL. They have created rules that eliminate defensive plays, to boost offense which ultimately leads to more people coming to games. You find often players and former players, who know the essence of the game don't like the rules because they feel it changes the game. Well that's what is happening to the church. Sadly Northern VA seems to have a lot of churches that fall into that category.

I don't see this in the churches I've been to over the years. Do you attend a lot of churches in NOVA where you see this or is this speculation?

I've seen it in NoVA, I've seen it in MD, I've seen it in Hampton Roads, I've seen it in NC. I've been to a lot of churches in my life time. Maybe your experience is different than others, but the Bible has even predicted these things to happen. Look at 1 Timothy 6. We are literally seeing what is spoken in that chapter unfold before our very eyes.

I have seen it on TV. Joel Osteen is the king of preaching to make money and not make people mad.
