We are thinking of buying a house in Ashburn (Belmont Country Club). My husband will be driving to Arlington for work. How long is that commute? He is usually at work before 5am and leaves by 3pm. He doesn't have a set schedule.
Also, does anyone have any good or bad information about the Belmont Country Club? We have 4 kids under 9, and schools are crucial to us, as well as a nurturing community for our young family.
I appreciate any help you can give us.

Leaving that early, he should probably be able to get to work in 30-35 mins to Arlington, if you hit Waxpool/28S/Dulles Toll Road~~66E. There's usually no traffic on the road that early, so that should be fine.

I make that drive all the time on weekeneds from Brambleton and I can get to the DC/Arlington area really quick when there's no traffic.

If he was leaving at 7....HAHAA 66 alone would be a disaster.

not sure when the HOV Restrictions start on 66, but, in the mornings (headed into the city), it is HOV-2. He should be good by 5 am, though.

Where in Arlington does he work? North, South?

He'll be fine. Back in high school, a couple of my teachers commuted from Ashburn to Arlington before the 7:25 am start of school. It will be an easy drive.

Agreed. That's an awful commute at normal times, but a complete reasonable commute for 5AM to 3PM (going there will be a cinch, getting home will take a little longer but still reasonable). I have heard good things about the Belmont neighborhood.

With that kind of schedule you're in a commuting sweet spot in most areas. Congrats

If he leaves at 3, the only issues he'd even have is 66E, if any. The Toll Road onward at that time is usually perfectly fine. I leave work from McLean at 4:30 and take the Toll Road and even that late, it's still usually not backed up at all unless there's a random accident.
