Figure if I am going to put sod down, rip up the grass, put topsoil down, then why not put the sprinkler system in at the same time.

I'm not saying that the job cannot be done, but the singlemost biggest mistake people make is not equating time to money. I always view my time in the context of how I could spend it otherwise... ...with the family, pursuing my hobby, keeping in touch with friends, etc. So long as you are doing this job for all the right reasons then it's fine.
