I'm dealing with an 87 in a 65 right now on I-81. The penalties are stunning.

The state of VA *budgets* for speeding tickets. It holds the whole transportation budget together. The only way to win is not to play the game.

...and apparently, even on an EMPTY interstate with absolutely perfect daytime driving conditions, 87 mph is "reckless." Good luck to everyone dealing with these draconian laws.

Suspending my license is one thing, but the thousands of dollars and possible jail time are punitive and greedy. Go balance the state budget somewhere else.

Anything over 80 is reckless, as is going more than 20 MPH over the posted limit. In your case, I guess you were doing both (highest limit I'm aware of in VA is 65MPH). So, yes, you were reckless... This is a totally preventable situation.

87 in a 55? That's 32mph over the speed limit.

I'm sorry, but you deserve what you got. That is extremely dangerous.

I think it's really pathetic how everyone screams "Get a lawyer!" and feels like the cop is unfair.

I'm usually always above the speed limit, but not more than 15.

You were going way too fast. Next time think before you act. Your car is not a giant shield. We all see you inside hunched over your wheel.

Default Reckless driving conviction & Career

I was convicted for Reckless Driving (speeding above 80) for speeding at 85mph on a 55 mph road in Virginia.

Kindly let me know if the HR people will deny me a job. I am a programmer.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I wish you the best of luck....but as some others said....you won't automatically lose your TS or any other clearnace you may have....

i mean come on....our F-ing president had a DUI, did coke, etc. and he was....well.....the f-ing president with the highest clearance possible....

you'll be ok.

As long as you don't try to hide or omit the fact on any clearance application. If you try to hide it, they'll find out and you will be denied the clearance. If you admit to it on the application, you'll probably be fine.

Check with your security officer... if you have multiple driving tickets then yeah that would be an issue, but if you have had only 1 or 2 for the number of years you have been driving you should be okay. You just don't want to show you have a pattern of being irresponsible.

I had a buddy of mine who got two reckless tickets driving tickets in the same weekend. One in Fairfax and another in Prince William. His attorney did well.
