Except that many of those people paid higher registration fees where they came from than we do. We just call it a tax.

I prefer it as a tax. Then I can itemize it off my Schedule A.

Very true. There was a thread on the automotive forum (I think) that asked "What do you pay to register your car" or some such.

Many of the posters quoted numbers that ran well into the hundreds of dollars per year. Some even noted that it decreases every year as the vehicle ages. Sounded suspiciously like our "car tax".

But if it's all rolled into one and called a "registration fee"....folks don't get nearly as upset! LOL

Good point, but I'm sure our taxing authorities have factored that into how they set the rates.
