We've had a place at the shore for 7 years, but we have always left for home early (before10:30) on Sundays for fear of getting caught in bad traffic. Anyone know how much worse it is to leave later, or how bad it might be if we left around dinner time?

Stay into the evening and go home late. Head on down to Ocean City for a day of tacky fun then bail for home around 6:30 pm.

Remember, most rental properties dump you out of your place at 10:30 or 11:00 am. Everybody hits the road then...

My family is that way and I go to the beach a lot (or just visit) in the summer. Usually I leave around 2pm or so and traffic isn't bad (it can be heavy, but it moves). I think I've been caught in traffic by the bay bridge twice (once because of weather and once because of an accident). But I should note, I don't take that 404, 16, route 1 route. So I have no idea what that's like. I take a longer route mile-wise, but it's the same time-wise. The "advantage" for me is that my family and friends live along the route I take.

I think a lot of people leave the beach at 10:30- 11 like Vienna said. But you also have to go by weather. Just because people check out, doesn't mean they leave. If it's a nice/great beach day, people will check out and then go to the beach all day anyway (just leave their stuff in the cars). So if the weather is nice, a lot of people leave later.

We have a place in Ocean City, and when we visit for a weekend, we almost always leave around dinner time on Sunday evenings (say, 6-7pm) and rarely have much problem with traffic.
