They keep saying simply "late 2012", but from driving around, it seems like they just need to pave a few ramps and they're basically done. Does anyone know when the lanes will officially be open? Hard to find updates on it..

I drove by the Lee Highway entrance/exit yesterday, and there is still work to do there. They haven't fully connected the ramp to the new bridge. I'd have to think that Nov/Dec is likely, but I haven't seen anything official either.

I heard they were ahead of schedule and hoped to finish by Thanksgiving. Originally they planned to be done by the end of the year. I don't have a link or anything as I just heard this info via word of mouth.

VDOT announced earlier his year that the lanes would open in December, but I agree, they could easily be ready before then, unless they slow construction. BTW VDOT also announced that after years of calling them "HOT lanes," they will now officially be called "Express Lanes, EZ Pass" or something crazy like that. VDOT loves to make simple things confusing.

my understanding is they still have testing to do on the ez pass reading technology, including making sure it does not charge people in the regular lanes. Theres more to completion for this project than the visible features.

I think Thanksgiving weekend is what they are shooting for, and they might do what the ICC did and have a freeby weekend for people to use and get used to.

They could just open all the lanes to everybody for free while they work out the technology kinks =)

We heard Thanksgiving in an update by The Powers That Be, but it's not even Labor Day so who knows how close that is to reality.
