Well, I don't have too much to compare it to as I've been living here most of my life, but I think the care in NoVA is excellent--mostly so in the closer in suburbs (Fairfax, Alex, Arlington). Not much of a fan of the docs here in Woodbridge, so I travel a bit, but there's a few.

Thanks to both. I dream of getting out of Florida and am always torn between deciding between Massachusetts and northern va. Mass always rates highly for medical care. I know there is the Innova chain in VA.

It is an extremely wealthy and powerful area . . . Don’t you think that absolute best care of every imaginable specialty is available?

hopefully. this is why I asked the question. The state overall still doesn’t rate that high with medical care (US News and world Report]. I live in a wealthy area of Florida and the medical care is not that good. Maybe not a “powerful area” as you put it.

Wealth and power don’t always correlate with intelligence either.

Virginia ranks 18 for medical care. That’s why I specifically asked about northern Virginia.

Dental care is a documented ripoff. There is world class healthcare if you can afford it, but Charlottesville is just as good, or even MCV in Richmond, where there is actually a school of Dentistry.

I'm from MA and I get your concerns. Don't discount the health care component of where you move. We're in SC now and were spoiled for great care and didn't know it. There are just SO many good hospitals in Boston - Dana Farber Cancer Center, MGH, Brigham, Beth Israel, Tufts, MA Eye and Ear....

We are also looking at a possible relocation to Nothern VA. US News rates UVA Medical Center as tops in the state with VCU Richmond second. Inova Fairfax in Falls Church is also rated highly as are a few hospitals in DC.

Consider that if you have something extremely serious, Johns Hospkins Hospital is only a little over an hour away from Northern VA.
