I'm picking someone up at the hospital (Inova FX-Gallows RD) tomorrow for lunch. I really don't know the area well. Anyone know of a good restaurant close by? It can be a chain but hopefully with some decent food. No fast food. American is preferred.

Lemme think...just up the road a little past the 50/Gallows interchange, you got Grevey's, a sports bar, Sweetwater Tavern (part of the highly regarded GAR chain), Uno Chicago Grill, and several others. Make a left at Gatehouse Rd (except for Grevey's, it's on the right in the shopping center).

You're just a few blocks from Sweetwater Tavern, on the north side of Route 50 from the hospital.

Not American but good are Elephant Jumps, a Thai restaurant in the shopping center on the east side of Gallows north of 50, Uncle Liu's Hot Pot on the west side in the shopping center with the Great Wall grocery, and the Vietnamese restaurant Four Sisters up a few more blocks on the west side in the new building in the Mosaic District.

You aren't far from the City of Falls Church (east on 50, left on Graham, right on 29 then about 1/4 to 1/2 mile) and in FC I would suggest Pizzeria Orso. I can't remember which street it's on precisely, but just a block or so off Hillwood & Broad streets and there's a sign hanging from the top of the building that it's housed in. Small plates there are excellent, but they make a good pizza, too.

There's also a Silver Diner a bit north on Gallows Road. It's not my favorite, but it's adequate.

Similar to Sweetwater...Silverado in Annandale which is right down the road and usually less of a wait.
