I'm moving to South Riding in a few months and I was wondering what my commute will be. I'll be going to Falls Church by Seminary Rd. I've done the commute from Woodbridge and it took about 45 minutes on 95. But from the Chantilly area...I've heard Rt. 50 is ridiculous and 66 gets really backed up. If anyone as sugestions about alternate routes I would really appreciate it

What time should I leave South Riding if I have to be at work at 9am?

Thanks!

I'm not in that area, but I would suggest not living in South Riding and trying to commute that far, sorry. I really think you can only live so far out if you have flexible work hrs. (such as willing to get to work at 6 am, etc.)

Leaving by 6am should do it....50 is a nightmare!

Maybe you should reconsider the move to SR or find another job....no kidding, it's going to be a living h*ll.

I'd say you should leave at 7:30, at least your first day. I haven't been on that stretch of 50 or 66 during rush hour in a long time, so I'm not sure how bad it is now.

There used to be a poster on here who lived in (or at least was very knowledgable) about South Riding, whose name I can't remember, but he knew all sorts of backroads and alternate routes around South Riding that I had never heard of, so I hope he responds to this with some helpful tips.

I'm moving out that way too. Off of Braddock, you could take Post Office Rd, Pleasant Valley Dr. (or Rd. I can't remember which) or Gum Springs Rd to cut over to RT29 and catch 66 from there. Post Office Rd. has parts of it unpaved though. Braddock also goes right to RT28 but is mostly single lane and if you get caught at the time when the Westfield HS kids go to school, you could be in for a wait.

Considering it took me 40-45 min to get to Fairfax (Merrifield) from Centreville when I left at 7:00am, I'm thinking now I'm going to have to leave another 15 min earlier.

Default Bad, not so bad

I have a client that commutes from Bristow to Falls Church. Takes him well over an hour. One consideration from South Riding to avoid 50 altogther would be to take Loudoun County Parkway to 606 and 606 to 28 and get on the toll road. Or, take 50 to 28 from South Riding and head up to the toll road. Get off at Rt. 7 and go to Falls Church. There's really no good way. Grin and bear it until you find the route and schedule that fits you best.
