I will be moving to VA, just wondering how is the state income tax vs NC state income tax? I do have option to keep NC address as primary.

As Casey Stengell once said - "you could look it up":

We just did the reverse. I'm pretty sure Virginia is cheaper, but I'll tell you after April 15!

This one was pretty tricky as it required both a google search of "virginia state income tax rates" as well as "north carolina state income tax rates"... [/sarcasm]

Va Taxable Income Tax Calculation (double bracket amounts for married filing jointly)
0 - $3,000 2%
$3,001 - $5,000 $60 + 3% of excess over $3,000
$5,001 - $17,000 $120 + 5% of excess over $5,000
$17,001 - $720 + 5.75% of excess over $17,000
Exemptions: $930 each

North Carolina
Tax Bracket (Single) [1] Tax Bracket (Couple) [2] Marginal Tax Rate
$0+ $0+ 6.00%
$12,750+ $21,250+ 7.00%
$60,000+ $100,000+ 7.75%
Exemptions: $2500 (or $2000 depending on Fed AGI of 60k or less)

Related, but unrelated question: Anyone understand how the new 100K tax works in MD?
