Not tryin to pay salary of some toll-jockey wanna-be ranger sittin in a booth every time i want to see trees. There are some free parks, e.g., Lake Ridge, but these tend to stink of raw sewage.

Compare this to NV, which has ZERO state tax, ZERO local tax, and a ton of great regional parks, which are all FREE. Think NOVA is still part of 'merica? Its not. Its now run by local govt cartels who take your dollar and give you a donkey punch in return.

I'll be moving up the NOVA region and working in the Alexandria area. Do you have any leads for me for an affordable but not too terrible one bedroom apartments in that area? Also areas that are pretty safe for a young woman to live would be good. Since Im a recent graduate I am on a budget!

Parks are not just "trees". Parks have parking spaces, they have trails, groomed areas, many parks have boat ramps, staff, visitor centers, conservation programs, kids activities and playgrounds, etc. Sure, if it was wilderness then it'd be a different thing, but any place where humans visit needs maintenance. Not investing in things is a great way for them to go downhill. Just try not investing anything on your yard, and see how nice it'll look in five years.

Talk with people who live in third world countries, they often complain about how their national and regional parks are in a deplorable state. Stop investing in our parks, our roads and our infrastructure, and we'll soon have third world parks, roads and infrastructure.

And by the way, parks in Nevada are not free at all. Sure, many have no entry fee, but taxpayer money still goes to them. Different states just have different ways of funding things. And by the way, the fact that two states can be governed in such different ways is 100% American.

Hi All , I have couple of questions regarding Arlington/ NOVA in general

a) are jobs like cashier , indoor sales , store assistant , bookkeeping easily available ? is job market good for non government / non military jobs more specific aviation / logistics ?

b) will summer heat prevent outdoor/ parks ? do it cool at nights or still unbearable ? In winters , is there some temperate days / sun breaks where people can go parks

You can always look into being a specialist at a countertop company called Capitol Granite, they have 2 locations in Midlothian and Glen Allen, Virginia. I would ask about opening job positions. They are basically a large countertop, cabinet, and flooring installation company.

Or look into local businesses, they typically are on the search for extra help!

I can't really speak on behalf of all of Nova (it's a large place). But, FWIW, my old neighborhood in Loudoun County had people from just about any ethnic group you can imagine, as well as several mixed marriages. I never heard of any particular problems. We had a black/white family down the street who seemed to fit in well, but since I didn't have elementary school kids and they mostly hung with that group, I'm note sure I knew them well enough to say for sure. My next door neighbor was Chinese and his wife was Finnish. They never seemed to have problems (at least that I know of).
