Hi everyone,

I am a new teacher who currently lives in New York and i'm in the process of looking for work. I'm certified for general and special education and I am curious about the schools in PWCS.....and the cost of living in the area as well. What is the reputation of PWCS schools? Do teachers live in the community or do they have to commute? The rent prices looks like they could be very high. The 2 brs that I'm looking at are fairly costly....and I have no intention of being 'apartment poor' because I have a 10 yr old son that I have to keep entertained as well...thoughts anyone?

Prince William County is actually one of the more affordable areas around here. I work with several teachers in Fairfax County who live in PW and commute because it's cheaper. The teachers I know who work in Prince William also teach in Prince William.

All of northern Virginia is diverse. Prince William is pretty diverse, but has been trying to drive Hispanics out for a decade with mixed success. Prince William schools are not as good as Fairfax and Loudoun schools but better than counties farther south.

You will probably get a job quicker in special ed. The cost of housing is much less expensive in Prince William than counties closer in. Good luck in your job search.

.
I lived in PW County for about 16 years before moving to Fairfax. They have been cracking down on illegal aliens and enforcing laws, but I would not say they are "trying to drive Hispanics out...". There is a difference.

PWCS pay is similar to Fairfax (and at some steps, higher), and the COL lower.
