My boyfriend got a job offer in Reston. We should be moving in about a month. We're in Texas so we won't get the chance to look in person before finding a place. We're bringing his two elementary aged kids and a pretty big dog. I've been looking at townhomes for the most part. I've noticed Reston doesn't have much to offer. What areas would be ideal for good schools and an easy commute? Those are probably the most important factors. That and a fenced in yard. We're looking to spend up to about 2k. Thanks for the help.

You can also check Herndon and Sterling for close options. Ashburn is a little further and will likely require Toll Road costs to commute.

Okay, maybe I should have been more specific. I meant that Reston doesn't have a lot to offer us. Most of the townhouses I've looked at either don't allow pets or have a fenced in backyard.

That's going to be tough to find at your price in Reston and Herndon. If you do, it's likely to be an older house that isn't in great shape.

You might find an older house in that price range in Herndon, Centreville, or Chantilly. Reston is more expensive.
