Anyone know of or have any experience in Renting in Dominion Valley?

And what kind of commute would it be to Reston?

Hi,

Dominion Valley (we're talking about the Toll Brothers community in Haymarket, right?) is very new, so you'd be in a new lovely home, townhouse, whatever. It's a lovely neighborhood. My best friend is there so I have spent a lot of time there and I imagine renting there would be quite nice.

The location is fairly close to 66, so you'd head down 66 to the Fairfax County Parkway, generally speaking. There might be other possibilities. For living in DC, it would be a good/short commute. Still, it could range anywhere from 35-65 minutes. {More in case of an accident, etc.} However, that's perfectly reasonable and would make it a good idea, in my opinion.

Default Rules?

How bad are the rules? I mean, I have heard some of these communities are nuts about rules, measuring your grass and such. I'm worried. I mean do they not allow you to decorate your house for x-mas and stuff like that? My kids have a collection of inflatables that we put out on the front yard. One for each holiday, and I would hate for them not to be able to put them up because some SP is on some rules committee.

Hi,

I don't specifically know, but I never heard anyone complain. I also hate too many rules (haaaate; I'm very reasonable, flexible). I'm sure you can't paint your house purple, and have to occasionally cut your lawn, but it's a very festive neighborhood, so I would have a hard time thinking that they don't allow lawn decorations at the holidays. But I wouldn't want you to base everything on my assumptions ... Is there a management office you could call to run through a few of these questions? I could ask my friend, but it might be better to get to the source ...

I'm pretty familiar with DV. They aren't any more intrusive than your typical HOA. Keep your home properly maintained and you wont ever even know that they exist. From my experience, the people that have problems and scream the loudest about HOAs are the ones that typically violate the rules the most. As for Christmas decorations, I do not know anyone that has ever had a problem there.
