Generally, does Crystal City have a lot of noise from the airport nearby? The area of Crystal City near the Metro stop? Thanks!

I lived on 26th street S for a year right out of college, and never had any trouble sleeping or having conversations on my deck, if that's the kind of thing you're worried about. Obviously though, there are planes nearby.

Reagan has the strictest noise regulations in the country. Only certain aircraft are allowed to operate between 10 PM and 7 AM, and I'm assuming that excludes the larger commercial jets. There is also a distance limit with only a few exceptions that means there aren't a whole lot of the larger, long-haul jets coming in and out.

There are also flight pattern restrictions so that planes fly away from the residential areas. The noise was (far) worse when I lived in Palisades (in DC) than in CC west of Rte 1. I can't speak for the area east of Rte 1.

I lived on Eads St and found that the highrises on Crystal Dr. effectively blocked any airport noise.

About all they restrict for distance are international flights, you can get flights to LAX from National. And I have flight scheduled to leave at 6:30 am tomorrow. I hope they aren't planning on sitting on the taxiway until 7.

I lived on 23rd St. South and Route 1 and occasionally heard airplane noise during the day, but it was never bad. I never heard anything at night, and I lived so close to the airport that I actually could walk from my apartment to the terminal if the weather was nice.

If you go to this page and click on the Airscene link it will take you to a real time map showing flight patterns. That can better help you figure out if planes will be flying directly over the location you're looking at. Most incoming planes at Reagan are coming up the Potomac and not flying over Arlington, so I think that really minimizes the noise.

I lived on 20th St and Crystal Drive for two years, about as close to DCA as one can reside....no more than a dull roar from the planes, sort f like white noise.
