I am considering buying a house in Centreville. I'd be working in N. Arlington and would be driving in via Braddock or Little River, to the Beltway to Rt. 50 and winding my way to Arlington. Assuming I left at 6:45 am, how long would I anticipate that taking? And in the evening, assuming I left at 5:30 or 6 pm?

get on Google maps and enter your start and destination points at the time you will leave in the AM. Then it will display the commuting time in traffic.

You should know this concept baffles everyone on this board who asks for directions and commute times.

Well you can pretty much google anything. If you really think that is a perfect substitute for asking locals questions on this msg board then citydata serves no purpose

There is a difference between googling hard facts like commute times and directions versus asking locals pros/cons of living in certain areas, etc., which is what I think CD is for.

If you say so. I'll never understand why people have an issue with the commuting questions on this msg board. Much more insight can be gleened from asking people who have done a commute questions than looking at a map or asking google how long it should take. I would suggest if these threads bother you just not clicking on them.

Is there any way you can go into work a bit later in the morning so that you'd leave sometime closer to 630 PM?

I live in Fairfax by the Wegmans and work in Ballston and jumping on the I-66 right after HOV ends at 630 gets me home in ~25 minutes (6:55 to 7 PM). If I try to leave at 530-6PM, I have to take 50 and will get home close to 645 or 7 PM sometimes so I save over 45 minutes (and gas and my sanity) by leaving a bit later and getting home almost the same time.

Also, I leave around 815-830 AM in the morning and I get to work in under 45 minutes.
