I'm thinking of buying a truck of dirt. I see these dump trucks driving around delivering fill dirt to places, even to some homes. Any recommendations on who to call to buy one of these loads and have it delivered to my driveway? What do they usually cost? I'm in the Brambleton area.

The reason for this, the builder wasn't exactly generous with the dirt for the sod. Have some areas that hans't done very well. Would like to get ahead of this now for next year, if possible. Not wanting to wrestle with those 40lb bags from Lowes. Just want a mound dumped in the driveway, and start using the wheelbarrow to disburse from there.

Thanks!

Or Saunders Landscape supply (we get mulch from them but they also deliver topsoil).

Thanks all, I called one today who did some work for us in the spring as an anniversary gift to my wife. Wasn't too impressed with the pricing at nearly $40 a yard with a 10 yard minimum order. I've heard folks getting dirt delivered for around $50 to $100. Nothing special, just loose dirt. Will try lucky stone as well, great suggestion!!

Perfect. If you know people who have gotten those deals, then ask them who they used. If you've just heard that "a friend of a friend" received those deals (but you can't get a name), it's likely there was some exaggeration.

If you look on Craigslist under the section "Free" you will find many places listed giving away dirt. I saw Craven's Nursery even listed.

Love those developers. They scrape the topsoil off and sell it, then the homeowner has to buy it back if you want anything to grow.

Fill dirt is about $500 a truckload delivered and spread based on my experience. The dirt is free. The trucking, loading/unloading/spreading is what costs money.

I don't know of anyone who will deliver a load of fill dirt for $100. I am also talking about a large commercial dump truck like this:

And not small landscaping company trucks like this:
