I have an interview in DC tomorrow on 24th NW/N Street, and I will be taking the Foggy Bottom Metro. I'm too worried about not finding parking in a garage or on the street. I need some advice about what time I should leave my house in the morning. 8 a.m.? 7:30? My interview is at 10 a.m., and I would like to arrive a few minutes early and account for possible setbacks. I live in Woodbridge and would be driving to the Franconia Metro station. I've done it before, and it's a good starting point for me, but never this early. What time do you think I should leave my home? I live in Lake Ridge near the PW Parkway/Old Bridge intersection. Any advice is helpful! Also, I will definitely be prepared for the half-mile walk to the location from the Metro, so that's not really an issue, but it is something to consider for timing. Thanks in advance!

Interview is at 10.
Plan to arrive 15 minutes early (at least): 9:45
1/2 miles walk in dress clothes: 15ish minutes: 9:30
Metro train ride - 30 minutes: Leaves at 8:58
Finding parking that late, buying a ticket if you don't have one, navigating from the garage to the platform - up to 30 minutes: 8:30
Getting from Woodbridge to Franconia at that time of day: Unknown. Could easily be an hour. 7:30

I would leave by 7:30. I am overly cautious. I would rather have an hour to kill in DC getting coffee if everything goes smoothly on the trip, rather than show up 5 minutes late.

Thank you so much, CaliTerp07! I'm definitely prone to being more cautious, too, so I think 7:30 might be a good time.

Can you slug or take the commuter bus in? There is a bus back towards Lake Ridge around noon I believe.

Why don't you just drive in to a Foggy Bottom garage? Eliminates all variables except traffic.

I wouldn't mind doing that, but I know absolutely nothing about those systems, and I don't want to chance messing it up and being late. I'm very nervous as it is! :-) But if I get the job, those options may become a reality for me, which I'm fine with!

I guess the driving has me concerned because of the timing and traffic. I'm not sure how it is past Franconia. I'm sure 2 hours is enough time to get to Foggy Bottom from Woodbridge, but I want to be sure I make it. I wanted to drive straight to the building, but I don't want to chance the garages being full. The HR rep already told me that their building garage will be full by 10 a.m. And the street parking meters scare me. I'm a novice! I'm from Baltimore, and parking is just wherever you can find it.

Luv2Write79: I agree it's better to be early than risk being late. Have you thought about slugging? Lots of people driving that way in the morning. But then you'd be stuck trying to get back home mid-morning. But if you happen to be in DC the rest of the day, it would make things very easy for you to slug both ways.

Good luck!

Carlingtonian: I definitely have to get back before 2 to pick up my children, so I can't stay in DC. I'll consider it if I end up commuting, though!

I'll just add that at the Franconia-Springfield Metro, drive straight for the upper levels and you should easily find parking. I park there every day, and I have never not found a parking space on of the upper levels. Usually up on the very top, there are spaces galore. Of course, I always see plenty of people driving around the lower levels for parking looking like they are worried that the parking garage is full - I would just head straight to the top until I saw an open parking space.
