Just got back from the Target pharmacy, and our dog's generic thyroid medicine went up in price by--and I am not exaggerating--400% in the last 6 weeks. We used to get 240 for $27, and now the same number of pills is $200! The pharmacist was apologetic but said Target had taken a whole slew of drugs off it's $10 list.

I'm about to transfer the prescription to Wal-Mart, even though there's not one anywhere close to where we live. But before I do, are there any other pharmacies that do $4/$10 prescriptions?

Thanks in advance!

Costco is supposed to be cheap and you do not have to be a member.

Thanks! I'll give them a call.

Look around. Each pharmacy has different drugs on their "cheapo" list. For my dog's medications, I actually hit three stores to get the best deals.

Neo-Poly-Dex - $36 for 5 milliliters at the vet, $10 for 15 milliliters at Wegmans. $60 for 15 milliliters at Safeway.

Wow--Safeway is more $$ than the vet!

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely start calling around once this supply is running low.

Target is going to lose tons of money when we quit shopping there. We have other prescriptions there, and we buy groceries there sometimes. No more.

No...nothing is ever cheaper than the vet!

The vet charged $36 for 5 ml, Safeway was $60 for 15 ml.

Also, if the drug is not a human drug easily obtained at a pharmacy, and you have the physical script, then you can also try Valley Vet. It's a very reputable store that has very reasonable prices for animal meds.

It might turn out that Target is still cheaper for some of your other medications. You'll just have to do the same thing - sort of shop around and compare. I buy some groceries and general stuff there with my Target debit card for the 5% discount and personally wouldn't stop going there completely just because of a change in price for one prescription.

Oh, and I second the suggestion to try Costco. I don't have a Costco membership but have gotten prescriptions there before.

I've heard Wegmans has low prices on some drugs (I think they have a list--you could call first and see if your med is on that list).

Wegmans has an extensive list. I haven't used my actual insurance for anything in about 5 years.

Don't know if there are pet meds on this list, but here is a site you can use to compare pharmacy costs. Someone on the retirement board told me about it when I was researching drug cost for my mother:
