I'm 27 years old and grew up in NYC, so I never needed a car and don't have my license. I just failed the road test this morning because I apparently didn't look at my mirrors enough and didn't clearly look both ways at intersections. I really don't want to fail again and was wondering if I can just take the road test through a private driving school.

One school told me that only works if you're under 19 years old, but I keep seeing "DMV service" for $100 listed under the "adult driving" section of these websites.

I would call them, but I don't have access to a phone at the moment and would like to just book the service if I know it's an actual DMV road test.

Does anyone know? Thanks!

I never took the driving test. Somehow it was part of the driving school itself. Did Keith's driving school (no idea if they still exist as that was almost 2 decades ago :P)

I am a certified/licensed driving instructor in the Vienna Virginia area. The $100 fee is to use the driving school car and for the instructor's time. You do have to test at the DMV, though you can pay the driving school for 2 - 3 sessions to get you ready for the test, depending on your experience. Make sure you get a personal recommendation for a good instructor/school, it is easy to go wrong.

Former New Yorker here who learned to drive in her 20s. My experience was the same as PP's. Road test was at DMV using driving school's car.
