We signed a contract for orthodontic treatment for our teenager and one sitting into our treatment, we learned a bit more about TMJ, Facial Structure changes, etc, thanks to a plethora of information available online.

Unfortunately, I didn't do the due diligence *before* I signed the contract and now, it appears that there isn't an option to get our money back (assume, full payment made upfront). Is this expected?

I mean, is there no going back on something we just got into (no more than 1 sitting thus far)?

Also, do premolar extractions lead to TMJ down the road? Which is basically why we are hesitant about going forward with the treatment.

I had braces--and thank goodness. Otherwise, I would've looked like a farm animal. And not one of the handsome farm animals. About the time I got the braces off, I had all four wisdom teeth removed. No TMJ. Just some ADD.

Both my kids (and me) had braces. We did not do pre-molar extractions. I am a fan of moving the teeth and then doing wisdom teeth extraction later. My mother was adamant about it (and this was in the 70s). I also got several quotes for my kids and went with the doctor who recommended wisdom teeth extraction versus having the regular molars removed. It takes longer but I like it. Of course, some kids have so much crowding that both need to be done.

OP - I think this would be more appropriate to ask in the Dental Forum (Under Health & Wellness)

I am not definite, but I think you have three days after signing any contract to back out of it. I would have to look that up to be sure.

Not "any" contract. There are specific requirements to the 3-day rule. Since the contract was signed at the seller's normal place of business (the orthodontist office), it does not apply.

Yep, that's why I said I wasn't definite.
