Hello everyone!

My fiance and I are looking to move in together. I'm currently a teacher with FCPS and he's a database architect. Not hard to guess who makes the money in the relationship.

We're trying to find a place in or around Fairfax for around for a two bedroom place for $1300-$1600 per month some nice amenities. There's one place we've absolutely fallen in love with called the eaves at Fair Lakes (Fairfax Apartments in Northern Virginia | eaves Fair Lakes) that's super clean with lots of other young professionals in a great location. It's a great start in terms of knowing what we want, but it'd be great to have a few more options.

We've done some research but it's hard to find things in the $1400 range; everything seems to be around $1200 and gross or incredibly nice and way out of our price range.

Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a one-bedroom or two-bedroom?

The Eaves appears to be the latest name for what was called Autumnwood Apartments when I lived there in the early 90s (geez, that was 20 years ago!). It was my first apartment when I was 23 or so. It was fine at the time but that was long ago so I'm sure it's been through some renovations and management changes.

I've also lived in the Jefferson at Fair Oaks (three different units, two different time frames), The Reserve at Fairfax Corner, and what is now apparently called The Edge at Fairfax Corner (but I believe was called "The Preserve at Fairfax Corner" when I lived there). I do recommend the Fairfax/Fair Oaks area as I lived there for close to 20 years in these various apartments and it's just a great area and very convenient to major roadways.

I'd suggest taking a look at The Jefferson at Fair Oaks. I lived there in the mid to late 90s and again from 2007-2011. It is not owned by a big conglomerate and it should be in your price range if you're seeking a 1-bedroom. The units were all renovated within the past 5-6 years. You can walk from there to the mall, Fairfax Corner, and Wegmans. The same manager was there the entire time I lived there (most recent 4-year span). The only complaint a lot of people have is about the lack of parking/guest parking. It's a small complex and there isn't much parking to spare. I never had a huge problem with it, but in the last 2 years I lived there I sprung for a garage and it was definitely worth it. Private guaranteed parking + extra storage!

Good luck!

You'd probably like camden at Fairfax Corner - might be in your budget for a 1 br, doubtful for 2 br. Love the area though

We actually took a look at both the Edge and the Reserve. The Edge has a 1br + den that's great and in our price range, but parking looks potentially dicey. The Reserve has a HUGE amount of space for a 2br that's actually in our price range, but the place is a bit more run down than the Edge or the eaves. Both of them are potential yeses on our list though, thanks for the help! If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm still more than open to them.

Camden is a little too pricey for me. The location is fantastic, but there's so little space in there and I'm a schoolteacher who needs lots of storage, so that's probably a no.

I've lived at Camden Monument in the past (3.5 year stay) and have good things to say about it. Finding a good, safe community that does 2 bedroom places for 1700 will be very hard - but if you're willing to do 1 bedroom spots, you can swing it.

Camden Monument tends to be a bit pricier than their sister community down the road Camden Fair Lakes. Monument is safer, cleaner, and has MUCH better parking, too.
