Vienna also has two very good Catholic elementary schools -- Our Lady of Good Counsel on the Tysons end and St. Mark's on the Oakton end. If you opt for public schools -- check out Lakevale Estates -- well kept older homes but large colonials and split levels on big lots and you can walk to the elementary school (Flint Hill) and the high school (James Madison). But the real ace in the hole is that Vienna has the metro -- that is big for resale and you will also find it useful for going to Nationals or Capitals games or anytime you want to go into the city and avoid traffic. Your husband will also be able to get to Dulles airport from the soon to be opened silver line -- he can use the Vienna station and transfer or go directly on the silver line from Tysons. It really would be ideal. Good luck.

OP is looking for high schools.

Thanks for the information. I hadn't thought about the availability of transportation to the airport. Big plus.

I live in Tysons/Vienna in a townhouse and it's a great area. The only real issue is home prices have gotten really steep. With your budget that won't be an issue though. I agree with TE's suggestion of Vienna over Mclean. Mclean is great but it's even pricier, and I think its main advantage is better access to MD and DC. But since you don't need that, why pay the extra $. There's not much difference in schools or the towns. Both very family friendly.
