Additional Fairfax County Police already at Tysons Corner for Silver Line metro protection:
http://www.nbcwashington.com/traffic...268540772.html

Wow, they're lined-up, armed, and ready before the station even opens up! They must know something that we don't know.

They could be, who knows. They're probably preparing for all the teens and loiterers who crowd metro every weekend. Look at how L'Enfant Plaza station is polluted with loud, rude ghetto teenagers every weekend. It's mainly the riders from the Green Line who transfer from "East of the Anacostia River"!

Why would it be unusual to have an increased police presence at a public location where you expect there to be more people? It just seems like good planning - God knows we've had plenty of time to wait for the Silver Line to open.

I think you'd find that the police in Fairfax are professional and quite courteous. But they will arrest shoplifters.

Why would someone from "East of the Anacostia" travel all the way to Tysons just to loiter? This is fear-mongering.
Only someone who has very little experience with Metro would think that Metro station = ghetto teenagers. Yes, L'Enfant Plaza often has lots of noisy teenagers. But the Metro stations in the affluent parts of town like anywhere on the Red Line from Dupont to Shady Grove are pretty quiet. Same with the Orange Line in Virgnia. There's no reason to think the Silver Line stations will be any different.

Probably the type that go to message boards and post sensationalist headlines for the purpose of fear-mongering.

I've seen plenty of claims, but not much data to back any of them up.

Yes, Fairfax police are professional and quite courteous. Hopefully the police reputation will fear the shoplifters & keep them away from the Mall. Maybe the cops see how Pentagon City was almost taken over by shoplifters and teen loiterers from the DC area.

There are police on all the metro lines as a matter of public safety--they are adding a new line, therefore they need to add new police. Seems like common sense. I guess the question would be, why would Silver line be any different and not need policing?

The idea that this is some kind of "bad thing" is akin to opening a State Fair, adding a police presence, and then saying "oh, it must be bad, there are police there!"

Except you know exactly what you're doing, because I've seen it dozens of times already. And that's not the data I'm looking for.

From the article:
Quote:
“We’re not expecting a crime explosion,” said Ed Roessler, the county’s deputy police chief. “But realistically when you have an increase in people, you will see an increase in crime.”
You are trying to convey a different image and impression, whether admitted to or not.

Furthermore, assuming this was even a valid analogy (a stretch), Pentagon City is 2 stops from L'Enfant. The mall is 14 away. Do you know how long of a trip that is in comparison? How many of the crimes at Vienna or Shady Grove are committed by SE DC residents using the Metro to get there and back?
