Winchester is not in Appalachia. Sure, the Appalachian Mountain Range includes the Blue Ridge--but it also extends through most of the New England states. And anyone who thinks western Mass (or New Jersey) is Appalachia is sorely mistaken.

I doubt there's any place in NoVA or even in VA that predisposes residents to cancer based on geology or presence of mining/fracking/Superfund sites. In fact, we used to have a neighbor who thought our area of Arlington was a cancer cluster due to flights overhead from DCA.
