I had a reckless driving charge going 79/55 on 495. I went to court on October 17 and requested a continuance (to Nov 19). I wasn't able to get my boss (an attorney) to come to court because he had an emergency so I went on my own with my driving records. I came super late and was already found guilty in absence. I waited for everyone else to finish then the judge said she wants to have a recess. Waited for that to be over and she called everyone back up who was late. I went up and stated I would like to plead guilty for a lessor charge of improper driving. She asked if my record was clean which it was, she didn't ask for proof. She stated she would drop it down to speeding. (74/55)

Now my question is...what's the deal with my points? I'm a Maryland driver. I've had a clean record for the past 3 years. The only thing that shows up is I got my license renewed. I'm at 00 points right now. I have a fine I have to pay for the speeding which is 60.00. She didn't say anything about points, says the MVA handles that.

So based on my situation will points be taken off? If so how many do you think?

Thanks.

Why would you show up late after requesting a continuance? If I were the judge I'd think you just don't care.

Yeah, you should've driven as fast as possible in order to get there on time.

Just kidding; congrats on the victory. I'm too lazy to open that link, but I'm pretty sure points are based only on convictions (i.e., the speeding ticket, in your case).

The answer about your points doesn't seem to be very clear, given that this is an out of state matter. Here goes a link:

Point Assessment for Traffic and Other Violations

It seems as it is suggesting that you may or may not receive points. You have to just wait and see.
