My point is that considering Reston as a place that is super far out is likely a notion that only those who live super far in adhere to. Most people, I would imagine, would consider Reston a very reasonable distance from DC. Those in Loudoun would consider it rather close.

Thanks everyone for your responses. We will definitely be renting an apartment or a town home budget is about 2000- 2500 dollars. I am open to using the metro but will prefer to drive in to work.

Yeah thinking more Falls Church..Reston is 30 miles from workplace!! Definitely too far out. Falls church is more family friendly compared to Tyson's corner right? I used to think of Tyson's corner more of a business district and less so residential. We used to live out in Ashburn when I was down there, very nice area but way too far out to think about going back

When were you here last? Think you will be surprised at the changes in Tysons.

I honestly would never want to live in Tyson's in it's current state, and it certainly doesn't give me a family friendly vibe, but of course that can be somewhat subjective.

Completely subjective. Plenty of families in my building as are in my neighborhood. And whatever is lacking is quickly changing. Great schools, access to great parks, short commutes leaving more time for families to be together. I think that's fairly family friendly.

That being said, FC, Mclean and Vienna are more traditional places where people with families live.
