One more thought -- you said they'd love the American Girl. The Junior League is having model tryouts if they're interested in participating in the show.

Since they would enjoy this...but I wouldn't...I did alert my sister, so she can do this with them.

For the shows at the Kennedy center - it appears they are really expensive except if you get the upper side seats.....has anyone ever sat in these seats? Any trouble seeing anything?
Yes! I saw Elf last year from those seats and would do it again in a heartbeat! You still had a great view of the stage, though I expect you'd want them closer to the balcony to avoid any tall heads getting in the way.

Another option is Olney theater in Maryland. Cheaper tickets, seats closer to the stage, and some great shows for kids. They're currently doing the Little Mermaid, which is so imaginative.

Toby's Dinner Theatre is another fun option, they're doing Mary Poppins till Feb 1.

Artspace in Falls Church has a GREAT season lined up. They're doing Madeline's Christmas now and Jungle Book & Once On This Island later this year (Once is about a young girl who saves the life of a prince. It's not a strictly fairytale ending, but great music, a bit moralistic).

We just took a few girls, those exact ages, to the public park. Where we decided to try to catch crawdads after seeing them in the stream

Though we had plans to see a movie, they didn't want to go and instead stay and catch crawdads

We caught none, by the way. Fast little suckers..they also attack if you put your feet in the water, their territory

it sure was fun for them!
