My wife and I recently moved to Loudoun County. Her two children will be moving here from their father's home in Montgomery County to start school next year and both will be in high school. We live in the Park View HS district, but I've heard rumors that Loudoun County residents may register their children in any of the county high schools as long as the family can provide their transportation. Does anyone know whether this is really the case? I meant to call the schools today but got too busy to do so. I plan to do that tomorrow but figured that I'd see what anyone might know about it in this forum. Thanks.

I believe they changed the rules recently to allow kids to attend schools outside of their area if the receiving school has capacity. I think there is a list somewhere online showing what schools can accommodate transfers. Last time I looked, none of the Ashburn high schools were accepting transfers. That may change with the opening of Rock Ridge and the new Lansdowne high school next year. It is free but you need to provide transportation.
