Hi,

I am moving to Fairfax, VA, this Saturday. I need to set up services for trash pickup and cable companies. I need some suggestions for prices and services.

Thanks.

A list of permitted trash collection companies for Fairfax County is available here: Permitted Solid Waste Collection Companies*- Fairfax County, Virginia

If you're moving to the city of Fairfax, there may be some differences but I imagine many of the same companies service the city of Fairfax as well. The two biggest operators are probably AAA/Republic and American. If you call each of them, you can often get one company to match or beat the other on price.

Major cable providers in this area are either Comcast or Cox (depending on exactly where you live) and Verizon FIOS. You can easily find their rates and packages available on their websites or I'm sure they would welcome a phone call to go over your options.

Get Fios. Cable is total crap. You get a $500 gift card if you sign a 2 year deal with Verizon too.

And I worked for Comcast once upon a time...

Fairfax would be Cox or Verizon. You can get pretty aggressive "bundle" deals from either as a new subscriber. From my personal experience, the FIOS internet is more reliable than Cox.

FiOS blows the competition away on reliability and speed, but you do pay for what you get.
