My townhouse settled in one corner of my walkout basement, and I have a gap of 1/2". Even with the baseboard and carpet, I have a draft which makes that lower floor too cold in winter. I would like to cover that gap. I noticed it when the carpet was removed to be replaced. Should I use caulk or an insulating foam sealant? Please help. Thanks.

If there is also a gap between the concrete foundation slab and exterior wall (concrete/brick/cinderblock, etc.), you must first seal this gap before sealing the interior gap (between your drywall and floor). Foundation gaps are a common source of Radon Gas infiltration. During settlement, the sealant between your foundation slab and exterior wall may have been torn apart. You may or may not have Radon gas. It's just something you should check for, especially if your foundation has moved. Foundation gaps can be somewhat deep, and self-leveling caulk will simply fill an endless pit tube after tube. You should really have someone come to your home to inspect the basement to ensure the correct product is used.
