Judging by the $6.23 I'm charged every 6 months for $100k worth of uninsured motorist coverage on 2 cars, I would venture to say that uninsured motorist coverage is not that significant of a problem in Northern Virginia whether it be with illegal immigrants or US citizens. When I lived in the city of Philadelphia, which has a very significant uninsured motorist issue, I believe I was charged in excess of $300 every 6 months for just a single car. When I moved from suburban Philadelphia to the city of Philadelphia, my auto insurance premiums tripled because of he significant uninsured motorist problem there.

Insurance???? There are many many people driving around without licenses....I don't think their worried about getting insurance. And I'm talking about illegal immigrants and US citizens.

I dunno whether he was "illigal" or not, but I had a guy back into me at a stoplight once when he wound up in the intersection. He lied about having insurance and when I called the police, he got nervous quick. The cop took my info and sent me on my way, the guy was still blubbering to the cop as he was getting packed into the cruiser when I left, I assume moreso for the lying, etc instead of not having insurance. This was in Fairfax county, who's police dept. is not known for having patience either.

All policies in VA require some kind of uninsured motorist insurance, which pay you in the event of a collision with an uninsured motorist who claims fault.

Why bother taking them to court? That's what the insurance company will likely do to recover the money they pay you under the policy.
