My current favorites are Sunset Hills Vineyards in Purcellville and Bluemont Vineyards in Bluemont. I'm checking out Breaux Vineyards this weekend.

Depends on what you are looking for......

Views: Bluemont and Delaplane
Casual vibe: Sunset Hills and Barrel Oak
Events: Tarara and Chrysalis
"winery" vibe: Greenhill and Northgate
Wine: Grey Horse (Chardonnay) and Willowcroft (Petit Verdot)

(the worst wines, by far, are at Otium and Boxwood.)

Bull Run has a great cab franc, when it's available. La Grange has good wine and a nice outdoor setup. Tarara is pretty far out there but has a really nice outdoor area from what I remember. We've been to so many in VA they tend to blur together but the ones I really like stick out. Sunset Hills and Bluemont are pretty good. The view at Bluemont is fantastic.

Winery 32, Lost Creek, 8 Chains North, Quattro Goombas.
Haven't been to Rappahannock Cellars in awhile but they craft a lovely red blend called Nobless Rouge.
I agree with the view at Bluemont. You get a pretty view at Twin Oaks Tavern Winery too. Lots of deck space.

Quattro Goombas just opened a brewery on-site too, in the next door building. It was actually a really nice space, much bigger than I expected. And the beer is good. They have a nice big open outdoor area too if you have kids that want to run around.

Quattro Goombas also has some decent Pittsburg-style pizza.

I love Barrel Oak Winery in Delaplane! So family and dog friendly! Dogs are even allowed inside! Kids are given a juice box while the parents taste wine. You can bring a picnic and play outside and listen to live music while drinking your wine. They have wood-fired pizza too. Love it!

I think the best in Northern Virginia are in Loudoun county or northern Fauquier. Not really impressed with the other ones.

My favorite though are the ones off of 29 closer to Charlottesville.

I've heard such great things about BOW, but the few times we've tried to go, it's packed! No where to sit or even stand without feeling "in the way." I found it too stressful. Plus, if I'm not bringing a dog or kids, and just want to relax with some wine, I don't necessarily want other peoples dogs and kids around!

Molon Lave Vineyards - A Boutique Virginia Farm Winery
We've been here a few times and really liked it.
