I'll be working at Ft. Belvoir for only a year. I was looking into 1br. apartments for temporary living. I would like to be close to some nightlife so I don't need to taxi/uber every fri/sat night after a few beers, yet be within a decent drive of ft. Belvoir.

I was thinking old town, but it's expensive and parking is tough. What other areas? Springfield Towncenter? Mosiac district? Van dorn?

Huntington.

Mosaic won't be a fun commute, and the price isn't any better.

I agree with you about Mosaic, but unsure about the Huntington rec. What nightlife is there that wouldn't require transportation? I haven't been there in years. Has it changed?

D.C. would be a good choice.

You can take yellow line to some decent options, there are buses to Old Town, 5 minute ride away.

Got it. I was thinking the OP wanted to WALK home from things, but maybe Metro or buses are an option.

Definitely Old Town, if you can afford it.

Alexandria street parking is relatively very easy in the residential areas. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend that.

Van Dorn area sucks. Springfield is a car-centric mess. Mosaic is a little more walkable but 29 is like a 10 lane road you have to cross.

Why Huntington of all places? That area is so dead. There's nothing worth walking to.
