So we are moving from a 750sf apartment to a 1400sf townhouse. Apartment was all electric but TH has gas heat, water, and stove. I have only ever paid all electric. Any thoughts on how it might differ? Also any thoughts on water and sewer? Noon questions.

Natural gas is generally cheaper than electric. The stove doesn't use much at all... In the winter, the heat will drive up the price, but not as much as all electric...in my experience. I have gas heat, water and cooktop... heat pump upstairs and of course, AC is electric.... My gas bill in the summer is under $30 monthly....in the winter, of course, it rises to the $100+ level, if it's really cold.

Can't help with water/sewer, since I don't know what locality you'll be in!!! Different locations charges differ greatly!

Gas is much more efficient and cheaper than electricity.

I am in a 2800sq ft town home in Asburn and my electric bill last month was about $80, $40 gas bill (heat, stove, water), and we pay our water bill every quarter or 2 months (cant remember) and it was $100 for 2 months with a $25 connection fee so basically about $38 a month.

I imagine with the summer coming, my electric bill will rise some with the air running more.

I also have my wife and 3 small kids in my town home...

My TH is larger than yours (more like 2100 SF), but gas+electric average out to about $175 per month over the course of the year for our family of 4. Gas higher in winter, electric higher in summer of course. Water is about $100 every 3 months. Can't help you on sewer.

We have just gas with Washington gas and during non winter months, the bill is between $40 and $75. Winters double for a similar sized house as above.

Yes to what others said... gas is "cheaper" and more efficient for heating. I have a SFH with gas hot water and furnace. I pay < $25/month during the summer and past winter, my highest gas bill was $175/month. You can't come close to that with electric heat. Get yourself a programmable thermostat, change the filters regularly, ~90 days and invest in a few well placed ceiling fans. For electric, I avg ~$125-150/month yearly with 20+ wireless connections and plenty of vampire devices. It is a small power draw but it adds up. Your AC is the huge electric power draw.

I have Fairfax Water. For a family of 4, the avg is ~$125/quarter. It does not vary much.
