Definitely check the surrounding area. May be there is something that attracts flies? I live near the woods and hardly have any fly.

We live in a sub division, so it doesn't have much to do with the woods, but it is good to know I'm not the only one who notices this.

We had an indoor fly problem a few weeks ago. All of a sudden, we were sending out a joint strike force against them a couple of times a day, each one registering a couple of dozen confirmed kills. After five or six days, it was all over. Hard to explain why this happened for sure, but a short time before, there had been the unmistakable thud of a bird flying full speed into a picture window. Usually, this just stuns them for a bit, but in a few cases it turns out to be fatal. I looked around in the foundation grasses and shrubbery for a corpus delicti at the time but found nothing. I suspect that there was one though and that it was the source for a fly brood from which many found their way into the house. Otherwise, I haven't had any impression of there being more flies around than usual. In fact, the only super-abundance I've noted this year has been one of chipmunks. Bumper crop for them at my yard in 2015.
