Mine went up a lot this year and I pulled out the last two years' bills. Premiums increased more than 25% over this period. I talked with the agent and received several reasons for this huge increase--primarily that they have received a larger than expected # of weather related claims in recent years (none from me). But I was curious as to whether you are seeing the same price trend?

Guess I need to look! It's paid out of our monthly payment (which also covers taxes), so I never think about it.

I saw a similar increase with my renewal in early 2014. Not quite as bad this year. I shopped around both this year and in 2014 and almost every insurer I got a quote from was significantly higher for the same coverage. I heard similar reasons - I recall a few mentions of Hurricane Sandy.

thanks for the heads up. I think mine is up for renewal next month. Time to go check the damage to my wallet.

Mine didn't go up in dollar amount, but to keep the same dollars, they significantly (and automatically) increased my deductible (and also changed from a dollar amount to a percentage amount). With a note saying if I want my old deductible back, I would need to call.

I just checked, mine went up $11.

Last year when I got the insurance, I felt it was already higher, I didn't have much time to shop around, so took it.

I will see if I can find a lower cost before my renewal date.

Thanks to all who replied. Apparently multiple companies have been raising premiums well above home appreciation and inflation rates recently, despite good stock market performance (until very recently).

You have to shop around and switch every few years. Sometimes you can call and negotiate the increase down but it may require you switching. It's kind of like getting out of contract on cable...

Now you have me thinking... I have no idea - it comes out of the monthly payment and when the annual paperwork comes in, I shred the previous year....
