Hey everyone,
I am driving later today to Raleigh from Alexandria. I earliest I can leave is around 4-4pm, right in the heart of rush hour. Any tips or do you know of any different routes that maybe are out of the way but avoid traffic? I am dropping my GF off in Raleigh and then driving to Charlotte so we got a long trip ahead. Any tips would be great. We know we will hit traffic.

Thanks!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

If you have an EZPass, you can ride in the express lanes that bypasses all the traffic to Stafford. It will cost you like $10 but it's worth it. Get in them at the Springfield Interchange.

Would 301 help? Gets you around the 95 rush.

Right now Google says 4:30 from Alexandria to Raleigh. That goes up to as much as 7 hours when leaving at 4.

Just came through as far as Woodbridge. Traffic wasn't too bad. There was a pretty bad accident on Northbound 95 around Newington so we had the usual rubbernecking but was not bad after that. A total of 18 minutes from Duke Street to Occoquan. I'm sure it's double now and worse below. I'd use EZ PASS as far as possible. Rt. 301 is an okay option AFTER you make it through Clinton and Waldorf MD.

For future reference use the WAZE app. Great for traffic and routes.

Sure if there are alternative routes between two points.
