My husband and I are looking to move from a Woodbridge condo to a single family home in NOVA. We're going to have my mother-in-law living with us so are looking for places with basements conducive to apartment-style living. We've found a lovely home in Bristow but aren't very familiar with the area. What can you tell me about Sheffield Manor? We do not have any children, but may in the next few years. Any information would be very helpful!
Thanks

This house could easily have an in-law suite in the basement. http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...64-85448?row=1

Bristow has always been a safe area for families. Although I'm now retired from the PD the crime stats are still low for this entire area. Of course the single family homes will have less in the way of crime stats compared to a townhome development for obvious reasons. But you cannot go wrong with Bristow.

Bristow is a great location. I am a local Realtor in the area and work a lot in Gainesville, Haymarket, and Bristow. I live in Gainesville right on the line of Gainesville and Bristow. You can not go wrong in any of these three cities. Just an FYI Sheffield Manor is zoned currently for a Manassas High School, some people are ok with it and others are not. There is a big possibility though as time goes on and the new 13th high school is in place then they will be rezoned. Also you will find home prices are slightly lower in Bristow, compared to home prices in Gainesville. There are lots of options on the market with the potential of apartment living. Really as long as you have a big rec room, bath, and separate bedroom you should be set. Or are you looking for an additional kitchen in the basement as well?

I used to live in Sheffield Manor and really enjoyed it. We moved just around the corner when we were ready to sell our TH and move to a SFH. Loved being able to walk to the pool and various tot lots. Neighborhood not too big or too small. That said, when we moved the decision to keep Sheffield Manor in the Stonewall Jackson HS boundary was being made and we opted to choose a home in the Patriot HS boundary. Given all the construction in the area and plans to develop the area around Jiffy Lube, University Dr will be expanded. I would worry about a lot of cut through traffic and having a house close to University. When we were looking, we did view a number of SFH in Sheffield and I have to say, not very impressed with Richmond American built homes.
