Ok, so I've read a few existing posts about this commute, but I wanted to get some quick feedback on what option you would use to commute into Arlington (near the Courthouse Metro Station) from Sterling (near the algonkian park).

For the driving options above, assume that I'm leaving around 6:30 or 7:00 AM. Also, If there are slight deviations for roads you'd recommend taking after getting on 7 or the toll road, please just vote for those as main options.

I've been trying to run numbers on the cost of taking the metro (would have to park at the station), the toll road, and the time it would take to go down 7, but am having a hard time making up my mind. At the end of the day, the shortest commute time wins out over money here.

Before anyone suggests it. Moving is not an option for me . Thank you in advance for your feedback!

66 inside the Beltway is reserved for HOV, only, in the AM. Unless you have a second passenger, options 2 and 3 aren't legal options.

You cannot take 66 inside the beltway unless you are carpooling - are you carpooling?

Well damn, should have thought that out, lol. Thanks for pointing it out. What would the other common option be then?

Taking 50 is a popular alternative. By popular, I mean crowded.

Go earlier, before HOV?

According to Google Maps, it will take about 65 minutes to take 7 to Old Dominion Drive to Courthouse or 7 to 29 or 7 to 495 to 50. It says about 58/59 minutes if you take Toll Road to 7/123 or 495 to 50. Is 5 minutes of your time worth $3? Probably not, but that's for you to decide.

According to google maps, it would be about a 20 minute drive to the Metro and then 30 minute ride on the train. Add in possibly waiting on a train for 6 minutes and walking from the station, it would be about an hour commute.

It would cost $16.55 a day to take Metro which is roughly the same as it would cost to park in Courthouse. I would personally probably take Metro because it's less stressful and you can read.

I picked Toll Rd to 66, but that's me. I would not be alone. For you, Metro is the best option. You can get to is without paying Tolls too. If you were going to drive, 7 to 193 to 495 north one exit to the GW Parkway to 50 west probably makes the most sense, but Metro is the one option that makes more sense.

Ok, it's been over 5 years since I've done the drive from Sterling, but I have not heard of major improvements on these roads. In the morning:

7E - slow and tedious
193E - often excruciating
GW Parkway S - often at a standstill

This commute alone prompted me to move. I'd take the Metro, if I were you.

Agree that it's horrible just as every other route is horrible. It's the best of the worst. Metro is definitely the best way to go.
